Dekton is an ultra-resistant material which is extremely strong and long-lasting, it is even considered to be 30% stronger than granite. This material can produce seamlessly designed countertops and with this beautiful sleek design also comes minimal maintenance. However this doesn’t mean you don’t need to look after it, this guide should help you learn a bit more about this.
Everyday Care
Dekton worktops are almost completely non-porous meaning they will be highly resistant to everyday staining. However, it is still a good idea to clean these worktops every day with a neutral ph soap with some water. You can use a sponge containing soft fibres to clean it.
Unlike a lot of other materials, you do not need to use any protection when placing hot objects on the worktop. This is because Dekton is manufactured in such extreme temperatures so unless your surface is less than 8mm thick, you will not need to use protection, however, there is no harm in protecting it anyway.
Cleaning The Worktops
Although this material is extremely stain resistant, that doesn’t mean that they won’t happen. It is important to know how to treat these stains if they do occur to ensure you don’t make them worse. These are some common stains and how you should remove them.
Wine – Apply Q-action to the stain and leave for 2 minutes. Rub over gently with a scourer sponge. Rinse with a damp cloth. Dry with a paper towel.
Rust – Apply Q-action to the stain and leave for 2 minutes. Rub over gently with a scourer sponge. Rinse with a damp cloth. Dry with a paper towel. If it hasn’t worked, you can use a cleaner such as ‘CIF Cream’ and apply a small dot of it to a cloth and rub carefully in circular motions over the stain. Once removed you can use warm water or the Q-Action to remove any residue.
Oil – Apply Q-action to the stain and leave for 2 minutes. Rub over gently with a scourer sponge. Rinse with a damp cloth. Dry with a paper towel.
Limescale – Take a damp scourer sponge and apply a limescale remover to the stain. Leave for 2 minutes. Take a damp cloth and remove any residue. Dry the surface with a paper towel.
Dekton Maintenance
Since Dekton is extremely resilient and shouldn’t really get scratched, burnt or stained. Beyond the daily care for your worktop and the occasional stain removal process, you won’t need to do anything else. Most worktops will require sealing but due to the way that Dekton is made, this is not needed.
